About My Clients
Because my 30+ years of counseling experience has privileged me to know people in many settings and from all walks of life, my practice reflects that: Clients come from varied backgrounds & experiences. I see Adults only, and as a systemically trained therapist, I consider relationships important even when I'm seeing clients only in individual sessions.
My Background and Approach
My life has centered around work that helps others connect the dots in their own lives. I first became fascinated by what "makes people who they are" as a child, took related classes, and started off professionally with a Bachelors in Human Development & Family Studies. Years of social work later, I retreated to work from home as a freelance writer & online community moderator while raising my family. My journey's final bend, as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy Associate with a Master of Psychology degree, allows me to integrate my experiences to creatively and actively express compassion. I've worked with a broad spectrum of humanity and am especially well-versed in emotional wellness needs of those who are struggling with life transitions. After learning from the client their own preferences for counseling, I incorporate various ways in which I have been trained, including Solution-focused, Collaborative Dialogical, and Narrative therapies, as well as mindfulness practices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am not the expert in your life: You are. I believe every individual has within them what they need, and I am available to help them access what is inside. I believe that relationships with the world around us are keys to our individual well-being. I believe serving others is one way of meeting my own needs. The concept of Right Livelihood has directed my choices since the 1970s when I first began working. There is nothing more fascinating to me than people's stories and the meanings they derive from them. I am involved in animal welfare activities, am healed from being in nature, and use liberal amounts of both music and silence in my self-care.
