I have knowledge and experience in a variety of treatment modalities and assess each client to find the right fit for their treatment goals.
I use play therapy, sand tray , art, and other creative modalities for children, and teens, in groups, and with trauma survivors.
I have been trained in and practicing IFS since 1994. I have completed levels 1, 2 and 3, and been a program assistant for several level 1 trainings. I attend as many of the conferences as I can and participate in the online circle as well to continue to enhance my skill and profiency. This approach is what informs all the other approaches and techniques I utilize.
I have worked with children and adults with this disorder most of my life. My husband and children have coped with various forms of this disorder and the conditions that are often comorbid with it, including anxiety, depression, ocd, bipolar, sensory integration etc. I am continually updating my knowledge on what is effective in helping a client to minimize the negative aspects and utilize the assets that go along with this diagnosis. Each person's unique experience and needs are addressed.
Raising children well is a significant challenge, even more so when the child has any kind of special needs, whether intellectual, emotional, social or behavioral. Supporting and equipping parents to do this task well also helps the children to thrive as well. I do psychoeducation on child development, the particular issues their child(ren) has, and family therapy to learn and practice the skills and attitude needed.
I have both personal experience in overcoming depression as have helped multiple clients address the internal dynamics that reinforce depression as well as learning how to develop a plan to address their unique needs. This may include the use of medication or social support options in addition to nutrition, supplements, stress management techniques, yoga or other form of consistent exercise, and mindfulness/meditation techniques. I prefer to coordinate care with their doctor, if requested.
