About My Clients
Many of the people I work well with are carrying more than others realize. You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, burned out, stuck, or uncertain about what comes next. You might be facing pressure at work or school, relationship concerns, self-criticism, questions about identity or purpose, or a major life transition. I have a particular interest in working with men and young adults, including people who aren't sure therapy is for them, while welcoming adults across identities and stages of life.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Associate Counselor with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Alabama. I am practicing under the board-approved supervision of Julia Spain, LPC. I won't treat you like a problem to fix or assume I know your life better than you do. We will work collaboratively to understand what is happening and decide what would make therapy useful for you. I draw from person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and strengths-based strategies. In practice, that may mean examining patterns that keep you stuck, developing more workable responses to difficult thoughts and emotions, and finding the smallest useful next step. I balance insight with practical action and tailor our work to your needs rather than forcing you into a preset formula. We will use brief progress measures to notice changes, discuss what is or is not helping, and adjust our approach together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe people deserve to be treated with dignity, curiosity, and respect—not reduced to a diagnosis or told who they should become. Counseling should make room for the context of someone's life, including their identity, relationships, culture, values, and experiences. I value honesty, choice, and collaboration. My role is not to impose my beliefs, hand you a script for living, or pretend every problem has an answer. I want therapy to be a place where you can speak openly, question assumptions, and decide what matters to you without having to perform or say the “right” thing. I am committed to welcoming people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and stages of life. I care about making counseling approachable for men and anyone taught to handle everything alone, minimize what they feel, or view asking for help as weakness. I believe strength can include honesty, flexibility, connection, and a willingness to try something different.
