About My Clients
Both my work and research have brought me closer to themes of self-loss and death, and issues with trust in relationships. Perhaps you are familiar with the feeling of losing traction with life around you. Maybe you don't know what you want from life, or perhaps you're trying hard to get out from under and unexplained weight. It can be a relief just to be able to get through the day. Clients I see often grapple with childhood experience of neglect or other forms of physical or mental abuse.
My Background and Approach
I am a psychodynamic therapist. This approach combines psychoanalytic theory with contemporary research on how the unconscious shapes our lives and our capacity to cope and find meaning in the world. A core tenet of psychodynamic practice is about opening up thoughts and feelings where they may have been previously foreclosed or inaccessible. In our work together, we will broaden and deepen our capacity to feel, sense, and move creatively in relation to self and other. We will work together to bring awareness of patterns that may have been folded into you over time. These patterns can provide an understanding of how you experience and engage in the world. Some of these can help us, others stagnate, wound, hide, or distort our relationships. This can be a difficult process, often confronting us with parts of ourselves we can be reluctant to let go of. By engaging in this process together, we begin to unfold certain patterns which can provide an opening for something new.
