About My Clients

My clients often begin therapy feeling like they don't know what they're doing with their lives. I have found that creative types in particular tend to struggle with this issue. I help my clients find direction that honors the emotional needs of the past and the present. Together will untangle creativity and success from self worth and identity. As a writer myself I am abundantly aware of how those points can intersect.

My Background and Approach

Prior to working as a social worker I obtained by BFA in Film Production and worked for 10 years in an assortment of creative fields. During this time I experienced the instability of freelance work and the stress of having art and employment intermingled. A therapist does not need to have everything in common with a client to be effective, but it can be helpful to have a basic understanding of a client’s lifestyle and the barriers they face. In working with creatives I’m able to understand the journey they’re going through because it’s a place I’ve lived in. Throughout my career I have worked with the newly diagnosed, the chronically ill, and many individuals with no prior mental health experience managing some unthinkable loss. My process is creative and generative. I help my clients gain greater insight into their symptoms, identify sustainable coping skills, and ultimately move forward with their lives – because no one wants to stay in therapy forever.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Writing has always been therapeutic for me. A way to connect, heal, and bring light to the darkest parts of our personal stories. It is also a great way to get to know me a little better as a person. In the past I’ve written about body image, motherhood, grief, caring for aging parents, and of course how all of the above impacts mental health. So often, I’ve heard that people feel like they don’t really know their therapist. These boundaries serve a purpose but can also become a roadblock. It’s human to yearn for connection and understanding, especially in session. I believe that this aspect of my field is changing as more clinicians disclose their lived experiences and embrace the desire for relatability. I want to be a part of this shift and I hope my writing connects with you. You can find my personal essays on my website to learn a little more about me and my journey thus far.
