About My Clients
Clients who have worked with me are often coming from painful experiences that have led to struggles with mental health, relationship issues, and addiction, etc. We work together, as a team, to help you better understand yourself, make sense of your experiences, and make changes in your life that help you to feel more capable of handling whatever may come on your life's journey.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist. I have worked in Residential settings, Partial-hospital and Intensive Outpatient programs, and, over the last 3 years in private practice (outpatient level of care). I come from a person-centered approach and I feel that all parts of our self deserve our compassion and care. I believe healing takes place within the safety of healthy connections. Our therapeutic relationship can be the place where you are supported in working toward the goals that matter most to you. I offer you a safe, creative space where you are able to explore, express, and find ways of navigating life in ways that are aligned with your values. I have witnessed beautiful growth and healing with the use of art therapy. I also believe that increasing awareness into how the mind and body work together aids in the ability of a person to cultivate resilience and personal empowerment.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that given a nurturing, compassionate environment that people can move from surviving to living more fulfilling lives. I feel strongly that it is necessary to support people's autonomy and sense of agency AND to consider the systems (whether familial or social, etc.) that impact them. We cannot ignore the realities of oppression, marginalization, and abuse that folks in minority groups experience. Feeling connected to people and communities that are safe and supportive is a basic need and a right of all people. I am also passionate about helping to destigmatize addiction and being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. While I take seriously the suffering of others, I do have a lighter, silly side, that I bring to therapy relationships. I believe that people are not just a collection of problems to be fixed BUT are whole people who are more than just their struggles. I want to know what you like, what's important to you. You can bring your whole self to our therapy sessions.
