About My Clients

Life is too short to live feeling anxious and ashamed of yourself. Whether this sense of dissatisfaction is hanging in the background or at the forefront of your mind and relationships it can feel painful, distracting, and suffocating to trapped in your circumstances. I work with clients of all ages with issues related to identity, gender, sexuality, trauma, and self-esteem. In addition to individuals, I also provide an affirming place for LGBTQ couples and families to heal and grow.

My Background and Approach

There is an assortment of reasons people find themselves feeling "not good enough" and usually it is because somewhere along the way you were taught that you were not deserving of love, affection, safety, or dignity. This is often the case for queer and trans individuals, LGBTQ couples, women, and nonbinary people who grow up in a culture unfriendly to their very existence. In addition to teaching clients new techniques and coping skills, I hope to assist my clients in healing the deep wounds at the heart of many of our distressing feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. In therapy, I hope to maintain empathetic, nonjudgemental, genuine, and curious presence in the room in order to facilitate conditions ideal for growth. When necessary, I also employ ideas and techniques from cognitive and narrative therapy to help challenge those internalized messages that keep you down. As much as possible, I also try to reduce the client-therapist hierarchy through collaboration and empowerment.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I value my client’s story and believe in their capacity to overcome the obstacles thrown at them. Human beings are capable of amazing things if only they are provided with environments that respect universal needs for connection, creativity, safety, and security. Unfortunately, our culture is structured in a way that leaves many people without these necessary conditions. Therefore, I feel it is necessary for therapists to be aware of the many forces of privilege and oppression inside and outside the therapy room. If you are looking for a therapist who is queer- and trans-affirming and sex worker-allied, feel welcome to contact me for a free consultation and we can begin the path of healing together.
