About My Clients
My clients range in age from adolescence through adulthood. I specialize in individual therapy with most of my clients requesting support with managing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, self esteem, family dynamics, parenting, motivation, & coping with life changes. I often work with clients who are new to therapy or are unsure where to begin. I love collaborating with clients to create the best plan of action to support them in reaching their therapy goals.
My Background and Approach
The first time I went to therapy I was in my early 20's. I spent the entire session in tears, & did not understand why. I came to realize that it was the first time I had really stopped to breath & reflect & acknowledge the weight of the world & circumstances around me. We are all carrying around a lot of emotional baggage, & therapy is a safe place where you can finally set it down and unpack. That first session was so impactful it is one of the reasons I became a therapist myself. I wanted to provide the same support & space to heal that I was so fortunate to experience. This is my goal for every new client & I have had the privilege of working toward this goal for the last 20 years. In session, my approach is client-centered & goal-oriented. This means you & I will work together to identify barriers to health & happiness, define your vision for personal growth, & create a path forward through challenging times. Let's unpack that bag together & unload what no longer serves you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe our strengths, limitations, & experiences inform our journey, but they do not define our path. You have the ability to make needed changes & adjustments in your life. We can all learn, grow, adapt, overcome, & transform in ways that bring us improved peace, joy, success, & wellbeing. Change is not easy. Life is both painful & beautiful, & I believe there are lessons to gain from both our successes & struggles. The key is in how we cope. One of my favorite coping skills is humor. I can find it almost anywhere & it is always with me. There is healing in laughter & it brings a sense of levity this world desperately needs. A day without humor is not a good day for me. It is a critical ingredient in my recipe for survival. Think about what keeps you afloat, how you overcome a difficult day. Coping can either be adaptive (healthy, helpful) or maladaptive (harmful, destructive). I believe we can change outcomes by evaluating the ways we cope in order to create a healthy balance.
