About My Clients
I work with couples who feel stuck in the same arguments, miscommunications, or moments of disconnection, even when they genuinely care about each other. Many of my clients feel frustrated, triggered, or shut down. They know something needs to change, but aren’t sure what. I also work with individuals navigating intimacy concerns, relationship transitions, or patterns that keep repeating. I have particular experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients and those in nontraditional relationship structures.
My Background and Approach
I use the Gottman Method and other humanistic approaches to help clients better understand what’s happening beneath the surface and learn practical skills that actually work outside the therapy room. Our work often focuses on managing conflict more effectively, strengthening emotional connection, increasing friendship and intimacy, and building relationships that support both partners' dreams. My counseling style is inviting, energetic, playful, and productive. We’ll talk about hard things, but therapy shouldn’t feel like a slog. I’m often direct and don't shy away from addressing conflict, AND I believe that validation, empathy, and accountability are essential tools for fostering any relationship. I work collaboratively with clients. You’re the expert in your own life; I’m here to help you meet your goals. I don’t expect perfection, but I do encourage bravery, honesty, and real effort. Growth happens when people show up--even when it’s uncomfortable.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a bisexual Black woman, I believe the personal is inherently political. We’re living through an especially challenging moment in history, and while these realities affect everyone, they don’t affect everyone equally. I practice with an awareness of privilege and systemic inequity and invite my clients to do the same--not through guilt or shame, but through gratitude, accountability, and care for others. I believe empathy and compassion are skills we practice, not traits we’re either born with or without. I bring a confident, engaged, and direct presence to my work. I support my community by speaking out, having difficult conversations, and staying involved beyond the therapy room. In session, that commitment shows up as honesty, curiosity, and creating a space where clients can be fully human (messy parts included).
