About My Clients
I really enjoy working with children and young adults (8-18 years old) around anxiety, stress, and feelings of overwhelm in different environments. This usually looks like "behavioral outbursts," "refusal," "avoidance," or much more. I work in a collaborative process with children, families, and even school staff to work towards common goals for a child. I value working as a team to support the child's needs. I also value including and collaborating with your child to create goals.
My Background and Approach
In a session, I will use my training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). These are fancy words to describe a technique that revolves around identifying triggers, thoughts, emotions, and behavior. In DBT we we work on tangible skills to practice to work on goals at home, school, or other environments. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and went to school here in the WNC mountains at Western Carolina University.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
With families I take a person centered focused approach and collaborative approach with family members and other people that support a young person. This enables me to get many different perspectives and a broader picture on how to be support a child. I am an active member in the community around hurricane recovery recently and have bene supporting people as a therapist in WNC for about 3 years now.
