Parenting is tough. It's even harder when a child and/or parent is struggling. Seeking support is one way of helping yourself and your child during a difficult period. I have experience with challenging child behaviors, emotional difficulties, ADHD, adoption, trauma, and separation and divorce. I will empower you by creating space for your humanity, increasing your ability to effectively address your current challenge, and deepening your parent-child relationship.

Anxiety, depression, and trauma can contribute to decreased self-esteem and people pleasing tendencies. Low self-esteem can look like consistently like putting yourself aside and making decisions based on what other people want. You deserve to live for yourself and have your needs met. I bet you are more capable than you know. It would be my privilege to help you grow your confidence and feel more comfortable being yourself.

Stress is everywhere. At home, in school, the workplace, our communities, etc. Sometimes we can handle it on our own, but other times, it's just too much to carry alone -- and you don't have to. Expanding your support network, learning about the things that may be contributing to stress in your life, and developing a new perspective can make life feel more do-able.

I was originally trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient and inpatient settings to help them cope with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. CBT can be helpful for many people looking for a short-term structured approach to understanding their patterns and making changes in their perspective and behaviors to provide symptom relief.

This approach spends time helping you develop a better understanding of yourself, your relationships and early experiences that have contributed to your current ways of thinking, feeling, and reacting. The goal of this treatment is to increase your self-awareness to loosen the power old wounds have on current functioning and as a result increase your feelings of empowerment and ability to more meaningfully connect with others.

While families can offer unique understanding and support, they can also be a source of stress and suffering. Some changes can increase stress and impact a family's relationship quality and in turn, individual members' mental health. These changes include: moves, illness, loss, or life transitions. A family approach to treatment can help you and your family improve your understanding of each other, build empathy, establish and maintain important boundaries, and strengthen your relationships.
