My Background and Approach
I'm dedicated to helping clients focus on meeting their five basic needs - love/belonging, survival, choice/independence, self-worth, and enjoyment - in the present moment. I approach therapy by supporting clients in developing fulfilling relationships and activities, which are crucial for long-term mental health and addiction recovery. My methods include reality therapy and other techniques to empower clients to take effective actions and bridge the gap between their ideal vision and reality. I’ve chosen to dedicate my focus to this specific group because I’ve seen the profound impact that addiction can have on people's lives and overall well-being. Sadly, members of this community often experience unfair judgment and stigma. When they choose to work with me, they can trust that they’re entering a safe and non-judgmental space. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I firmly believe that overcoming addiction is fundamentally rooted in the development of need-satisfying relationships that address our five basic human needs: connection, autonomy, competence, security, and meaning. When these needs go unmet, we become vulnerable to the grip of addiction, which can seep into various aspects of our lives, often as a misguided attempt to fill those voids. Healthy relationships provide the support and understanding necessary to navigate life's challenges, ultimately empowering us to fulfill our intrinsic needs. It's through these connections that we find not only comfort and validation but also the motivation to pursue healthier coping strategies. By fostering meaningful interactions and learning to articulate our needs, we create an environment where addiction can lose its hold, allowing us to thrive both individually and within our communities. I have observed this phenomenon repeatedly throughout my extensive work with a diverse range of clients.
