About My Clients
As a counseling psychologist with an emphasis on health, I work with individuals, couples, and families as they adapt to changes resulting from aging, chronic illness, and acquired disability. I believe people can be resilient when they or someone they love faces serious health challenges. My mission is to provide a non-judgmental and authentic atmosphere while I work with you to explore uncertainty, identify and develop strengths, and reinvigorate a sense of purpose and meaning in life.
My Background and Approach
The approaches I use are evidence-based, meaning there is scientific research and clinical experience supporting my rationale for intervention. I don’t believe in taking a one-size-fits-all approach, so you can rest assured your treatment will be personalized and collaborative. Theories and techniques I tend to use most include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness, existential psychotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, and family systems. Additionally, I believe in integrating societal and cultural factors into the treatment decisions we make together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a strong believer in basic human rights, and I recognize how personal values and societal structures impact the ability to exercise these rights. I identify as a feminist and work to engage in reflexive practice around ways that even feminism has influenced marginalization of intersecting communities. Because I primarily work with older adults and those with acquired disabilities, my current actions outside of therapy involve advocacy for access to healthcare, mental health services, and caregiver support.
