About My Clients
My areas of focus are several: 1) Adults with ADHD seeking to develop more optimal self-regulation, organization, and relationship skills 2) Couples struggling with distress patterns in their marriage 3) Adults with autism and other neurodevelopmental differences
My Background and Approach
I have a strong grasp on the relationship between ADHD and executive functions, and I have worked with a number of individuals and parents to help make sense of the social, emotional, organizational, and relational challenges of ADHD as well as to validate the strengths that are present because of--and in spite of--the diagnosis. As a couples therapist, I am trained in Emotionally-focused Therapy, an approach to counseling that is based in attachment theory. I work with clients "in the room" to help build increased safety and connection and to uncover and normalize the vulnerabilities my clients are experiencing that often drive the relational distress patterns (i.e. arguments and conflicts). With a better understanding of how that cycle keeps getting activated, I help couples enact new patterns that are more grounded in safety, trust, and authentic connection.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe strongly in the power and autonomy of clients to "self-right" as well as to heal through connection with others. A felt and embodied sense of safety is a necessary part of the foundation of healing. We must trust on some level that someone in this world "has our backs" before we can fully engage in the process of self-righting. My work is at root about facilitating the therapeutic relationship that serves as a model and basis for this safety, trust, and connection.
