DBT is similar to CBT, however, it is specially designed for those who often experience intense emotions. DBT focuses on helping people accept their reality while working towards making positive changes. DBT aims to enhance one's skills within the categories of mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. DBT focus on teaching one how to manage intense emotions, cope with situations, and improve relationships.

CBT emphasizes what is currently happening in one's life rather than what has led to the difficulties. CBT addresses changing both thinking and behavioral patterns in order to improve mood and functioning. CBT may help someone recognize and replace unhelpful thinking patterns, learn problem solving skills, increase confidence in one's own abilities, face fears instead of avoiding them, engaging in mindfulness strategies to calm body and mind, as well as engaging in role play exercises.

ACT is an action oriented approach to therapy. ACT focuses on helping individuals accept their life situations without judgement, evaluation, or attempts to change them. ACT focuses heavily on engaging with present moment, exploring and identifying values, and increasing self awareness.
