About My Clients
Are you struggling with anxiety, grief, relationships, stress, self-esteem, substance use, or all of the above? Maybe you simply recognize the value in having a non-judgmental person to open up to and help make sense of life's experiences and struggles. I provide a safe space for you to process your inner and outer world, and work towards your personal goals. I believe that our mental health cannot be understood separate from the body, our environment, and our individual and collective histories
My Background and Approach
I received my Bachelors degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and my Masters in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. I have worked in Chicago, Florida and internationally in South Africa, with experiences spanning from addiction treatment to wilderness and experiential therapy. I believe the recognition that we cannot understand the mind separate from the body, and we cannot understand a person separate from their environment, is a truth that reveals new pathways for understanding ourselves and deeper healing. Therapy is not one-size-fits all, and I use a variety of holistic and evidence-based approaches tailored to your individual needs, with an emphasis on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and somatic healing. Most importantly, my approach to therapy is meant to guide you to access your own inner healer.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that focus on the present moment, compassionate attunement with our bodies, and connection to our authentic selves are the most powerful tools we have to change our lives for the better. As a social worker, I know therapy is inherently political. I believe that our mental health cannot be understood separate from our environment, and our individual and collective histories. Thus I strive to practice therapy from a de-colonial perspective which challenges the traditional Western "mental health industrial complex". I have experience organizing for reparations to the black community in Florida and the US more broadly, and am an active supporter of the movement for a Free Palestine!
