Even if we know we endured hardships and trauma in our past, it can be difficult to understand how that impacts our emotional reactions in the here and now. My Background and Approach
I have experience and training with CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, Ego State Therapy, Gottman and EMDR. Depending on your needs and interests, I'll utilize these tools or investigate new ones to help you find your way. If you aren't familiar with that "lingo," that's okay. All it means is that I have a variety of tools to help you and am constantly looking to expand my knowledge base. Take confidence in knowing that you'll learn and experience things that will empower you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that a lot of the difficulties we have in life come from traumas we have experienced. Often we think we are "over" that, not realizing how those things still impact how we feel and react to day to day occurrences. That's why I believe that relieving emotions tied to past trauma significantly helps improve reactions to day to day occurrences. Additionally, sometimes we need to change our behaviors, thoughts and beliefs in order to achieve the success we are looking for. It is from working through my own issues that I have come to believe so strongly in this multi-pronged approach. And I believe one of my super powers is the ability to hold unconditional positive regard for all. Because I am open and interested in other cultures, beliefs and values - there is not much that can shock me. If you've been reluctant because you are worried about being judged, you won't find that in my practice.
