About My Clients
I best enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ population and youth from 8 to 18. I have experience working with youth and adults on a broad spectrum of concerns. (See my Specialties). I come from a background of working in community mental health agencies providing treatment to marginalized communities.
My Background and Approach
Tara (she/her/hers) graduated with a BS in psychology from Illinois State University and continued her education with a MS in psychology from Western Illinois University with a concentration in Clinical and Community Mental Health. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been practicing since 2020. Tara has a background in working in community mental health agencies working with marginalized and underinsured clients of all ages. Tara’s therapeutic approach has a foundation of person-centered therapy. She incorporates additional techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Tara is LGBTQ+ affirming and strongly believes in utilizing a multicultural, intersectional, perspective. Her clinical strengths include working with anxiety, gender identity, self-esteem, communication and boundaries, and domestic violence.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the pursuit of equity and that everyone deserves fair treatment. I believe that social systems have significant impacts on our identities and on our mental health. I am an active member of the LGBTQ+ community and find value in advocating for all marginalized communities. Time-willing, I like to participate in marches and community demonstrations for such causes as equity, freedom from discrimination, and bodily autonomy. I am a nerd; a reader; a crafter; an advocate. My favorite fandoms are the universes of Harry Potter and Star Wars but I enjoy much fantasy, horror, and science fiction.
