About My Clients
I am passionate about helping clients heal from trauma and abuse. I have a specialty in helping women recover from intimate partner abuse. I also work with children and teenagers who have experienced trauma. I am trained in EMDR therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am currently pursuing certification in TraumaPlay Therapy. The majority of my clients are women or children. I do both individual work and family work. I also offer EMDR weekend intensives.
My Background and Approach
I am trained in Marriage and Family therapy, which means that I look at issues through a systemic view. My first goal is to create a safe environment for my clients. I strive to help clients grow in self-compassion and self-understanding. This allows them to approach their trauma and difficulties with safety and confidence. I use evidence-based modalities to help clients heal from trauma. This healing opens them up to new growth and possibilities. I use an integrative approach to therapy, adapting my methods to each client's individual needs. I also use a collaborative approach, inviting my clients' input into their needs and desires in therapy. One of the most devastating parts of trauma is the lack of control that is experienced. I want clients to feel empowered and to know that they have personal agency in our work together. I want to come alongside my clients and help them discover the strength and the answers that already lie within them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people have inherent worth and equality. I believe that loving one another is the key to living well. I believe that people have an incredible ability to heal from past wounds and move forward into health. I also believe that when we find our own healing, we can bring healing into the world around us. I was raised in the evangelical church and have gone through deconstruction. I have considerable experience working with the trauma associated with fundamental religious groups. I am very passionate about the equality of women. I work closely with issues of domestic violence and am very aware of how the messaging in culture and conservative religious groups contributes to the victimization of women and children. I believe that children should be treated as full human beings and should be allowed to grow and learn in an environment that is safe and loving. I want to support parents in raising a generation of wholehearted children.
