About My Clients
I'm particularly dedicated to working with folks who've experienced religious trauma, shame, or guilt, especially as it relates to abortion and other reproductive experiences, sex and sexuality, and gender. I also am passionate about working with young cis women and genderqueer folks on boundaries, individuation, interpersonal challenges, and--as applicable--stressors of college and graduate school. I also have ample experience working with other white folks on their anti-racist journeys.
My Background and Approach
After studying psychology and Spanish at Elon University (plus a couple of gap years), I pursued my Master’s in Social Work at UNC Chapel Hill. I then went to Duke Divinity School where I completed the Fellowship in Theology, Medicine, and Culture and graduated with my Master’s in Theological Studies. Since graduate school, my work has addressed intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and reproductive rights. I have experience in crisis intervention, hospital accompaniment, client advocacy, peer counseling, and trauma-informed program development. In addition to my role at Three Oaks, I also address abortion stigma and mental health with Exhale Pro-Voice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a cisgender white person of means, I aim to stay cognizant of my privileges and constantly work to explore and implement anti-oppressive and decolonial approaches to therapy. As someone with a Christian background, I'm especially aware of historical and current-day weaponizations of this faith tradition. I support people who have left the tradition, who are still in it and struggling with it, or who continue to find healing and solace through it. I believe that systemic harms from which I may benefit, such as white supremacy culture, are also causes for my own disconnection, and that working to confront and dismantle these systems frees us all! I believe that, while therapy should not be entirely mutual, we must resist hierarchical power dynamics within the therapeutic relationship. I'm happy to discuss all of this further--feel free to reach out!
