I believe in the power to heal body and mind through skillful compassion and relationship. My approach is multidimensional and holistic.
Clinical Social Worker in Portland, OR
I can offer several methods of quick relief from the most intense PTSD symptoms. When talking is too much, I use a combination of Reiki (hands on energy healing) and guided meditations for healing. As a specialist in PTSD I am comfortable with a wide range of issues and backgrounds. I will be your coach, therapist and guide in steering you carefully out of discomfort to safer shores. I believe in the possibility of fully healing from any trauma and I have tools to get you there.
My foundation of therapy training is psychodynamic and attachment based. I can work with CBT and other tools, but I prefer to help clients gain a deep understanding of the mechanism of their own ego and psyche. I teach clients about the impact of unconscious and preconscious aspects of the mind, ego defenses and insight into the workings of their own ego which is based on "want/don't want", or as the Buddhists might put it "desire and aversion". Ego strength is foundational in healing trauma.
Trauma therapy is my daily practice at work. I have written two books on healing from trauma and one specifically for therapists on trauma therapy. I take a multidimensional holistic approach that helps the client heal at every level: body, energy body, cognitive mind, wisdom mind/awareness and the bliss or flow body (kosha, in Sanskrit). Once these bodies are addressed in healing, people can heal fully from their traumas.
I am a certified Past Life Regression therapist by the Brian Weiss Institute. Past life regressions can help people resolve longtime fears and phobias that cannot be resolved with garden variety psychotherapy. PLRT can help people gain deeper understanding into patterns of negativity that appear in their lives but it can also help people retrieve deep areas of strength that they did not know they had mastered in previous lifetimes.
PTSD and dissociation go together like 'peas and carrots'. Most therapists are unaware of dissociation and do not know how to recognize or treat it. I assess all my clients for signs of traumatic dissociation, which can be relationally caused as well as caused from abuse and traumatic events. Healing proceeds through grounding and connection. I do not consider dissociative capacity pathological; it is a natural human gift found in abundance in highly creative and spiritual people.
Highly sensitive people make up most of my practice and my family. As an HSP myself, I have a deep understanding of the benefits and challenges that come with feeling deeply into oneself and one's environment. This is not pathology! This is evolutionary humanity and my goal is to help people lean into their sensitivity not away from it. The world is not suffering from an overabundance of sensitive people!
Spirituality is a core aspect of humanity. I have pursued deep studies in spirituality over the years including Catholicism (radical, liberation theology), Hinduism and Advaita Vedanta (non dual understanding and philosophy), Buddhism, Taoism, and indigenous spirituality including Druidic studies (my own heritage) . My pursuit of knowledge in these areas is not just intellectual; it is experiential. I help people dive into their own spirituality and consider it an essential aspect of healing.
