About My Clients
I enjoy working with people who are in a period of transition and are trying to re-orient themselves. I have a lot of experience working with parents, separately and together, on raising children and leading a family. I also work with parents of medically complex children. I specialize in issues affecting women including peri- and post-natal seasons, career change, and work-life balance. I also enjoy helping clients set boundaries and develop healthier relationships and communication patterns.
My Background and Approach
Much of my career has been focused on families. I started working with children but quickly found I preferred working with parents on supporting their children. I'm passionate about healthy families as a foundation for a healthier society, and I enjoy helping individual parents, couples, and families build stronger relationships. I also have experience working with people in transition - career, parenthood, identity shifts - our lives are full of transitions and they usually involve stress. Often, they also provide an opportunity for growth and intentional shifts. I enjoy helping people find their footing in new circumstances and take control of their next steps. I use a person-centered, strengths-based approach with my clients. I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to progress, but that can only be a starting point. I also use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and other strategies to build confidence and competence.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a Christian which has greatly influenced my worldview. Some clients like to incorporate faith in their work. Others are struggling with their faith, and this might be something we explore in our sessions. As with any other person of a particular religion or faith, I realize not everyone holds my beliefs and consider myself equally adept at working with clients who do not want faith to be a part of our work together. I also believe in the resilience of the human spirit. In my life and work, I never fail to be amazed at the obstacles people can overcome. I love hearing people's stories, and helping them choose what their next chapter is going to look like. It often helps to have a fresh perspective and a neutral party to hear your story so you can hear it yourself differently. I consider it the highest honor and privilege to be a listener to the many lives and histories that come to me.
