About My Clients
I work with adults carrying the effects of complex trauma, CPTSD, sexual trauma, attachment wounds, shame, dissociation, emotional shutdown, or addiction. You may look capable on the outside while feeling exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you understand but cannot seem to change. You may want closeness while also feeling the urge to pull away. My work is especially suited to people who want depth, honesty, and a pace that does not overwhelm them.
My Background and Approach
I am Sury Klein, LMSW in New York, LSW in New Jersey, and CASAC-T. I provide virtual psychotherapy to adults across New York under supervision and in-person supportive counseling in Lakewood, New Jersey. I specialize in complex trauma, CPTSD, sexual trauma, attachment wounds, relationship patterns, shame, dissociation, and addiction. My approach is informed by Internal Family Systems, attachment-based work, motivational interviewing, CBT, and DBT skills. We do more than talk about what happened. Together, we notice the patterns still shaping your relationships, choices, and sense of self. We work to understand the protective parts behind those patterns, practice different responses, and build changes that can carry into everyday life. I do not see coping patterns as proof that something is wrong with you. They often began as intelligent ways of surviving. Therapy can help you understand what they have been doing for you while creating more room for choice, connection, and relief.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy should be honest, compassionate, and clinically grounded without feeling like a lecture. What people see on the surface is rarely the whole story. Behaviors that look confusing or self-defeating often make more sense when we understand what they were protecting. As a Jewish and Yiddish-speaking therapist, I understand that culture, faith, family, and community can shape both pain and healing. Clients do not need to explain or minimize those parts of themselves in the room. I welcome adults from varied backgrounds and approach each person’s values with respect. I believe meaningful therapy offers more than validation. It can help you develop real clarity about your patterns, relate differently to the parts of you carrying fear or shame, and make changes at a pace you can actually hold.
