My Background and Approach
My name is Suzie and I am a trauma informed licensed clinical social worker. I graduated UCLA with my Master's in Social Work in 2014. I specialize in trauma work, identity issues, children of immigrant issues, immigrant issues, relationship challenges, inter-generational trauma, anxiety and depression in teens, young adults, adults, and couples. I am a first generation Korean-America therapist with a sense of humor, and an appreciation for play and creativity: we’ll work together to build a connection and bring out your intrinsic strengths by practicing self compassion. My approach is kind, fun and authentic. I offer EMDR, mindfulness, DBT, ACT, and IFS models of working through trauma and mental health issues. My work with you will include an awareness of social justice, racism, classism, critical race theory, misogyny, colonialism and homophobia. Being human is hard and you shouldn’t have to be resilient all on your own. You are deserving of support and a safe space to explore.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
MY APPROACH IS ROOTED IN FOSTERING AN EGALITARIAN HEALING RELATIONSHIP WITH ALL OF MY CLIENTS so that you feel empowered to create community outside of the therapy room by engaging in healthy relationships with others. I believe that by increasing love, intimacy, and self worth, we become more fortified in our ability to navigate emotional distress. My approach embodies the idea that one's relationship with one’s self of having love and kindness is how we become happier and more steady. It also allows us to have more meaningful and fulfilling relationships. I integrate body-based interventions, process oriented talk therapy and mindfulness. Humor, play, movement, imagination, creativity, art, story-telling, are also woven into the work. Deep within us, we all have positive self regard that sometimes gets buried underneath shame and self doubt. My work is to guide you back to a place of self love and acceptance. I believe this is the foundation on which we build an abundant life.
