About My Clients

Are you stressed out with fulfilling the expectations placed on you? Have you been struggling with being authentic and staying grounded in your personal values in the context of your social and personal circumstances? When you cannot live fully as who you are, it is agonizing and may lead to anxiety or depression. This personal pain can also interfere with your relationships with others. You deserve to live a full life. I look forward to helping you to become the author of your own life story.

My Background and Approach

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (MFT51546), a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH 342), and Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider. Having my own immigration experiences and having lived in 4 different countries, I approach my work through the perspectives of culture, systems and the interconnections of our human existence. My background in literary arts as a poetic writer who speak 3 languages has also informed how creativity, language, and metaphors work in trauma and healing. I have worked in various community-based organizations with client groups from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds, and those who have had experienced oppressive systems. I work through a relational-cultural theoretical perspective to support my clients toward their own empowerment. I provide only online psychotherapy through HIPAA compliant platforms.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Anthropologist Clifford Geertz states that “We are, in sum, incomplete or unfinished animals who complete or finish ourselves through culture”. Carl Jung describes about the shadow and our undiscovered self. In my work, I often see the resilience my clients have amidst their challenging contexts, and feel compelled to hold the space in therapy that is conducive to nurturing the growth of these parts within my clients that they have yet to discover. I believe that if we can discover and complete who we are as fully as we see and experience ourselves to be, it will ultimately shine in our impact on the world in positive and meaningful ways. It is this faith and my belief in social justice that have inspired me to start Citta Consultancy, a psychological consulting social enterprise, to contribute to the development of an ethical mental health care system in Myanmar, a country that had experienced over 150 years of trauma from colonization and subsequent authoritarian regime.
