About My Clients
My ideal client is ready and motivated to engage in counseling; and for some they are not sure what that means other than they know something isn't working and they want things to change. I've worked extensively with the LGBTQ+ community, undergrads preparing to enroll in grad school, and grad students working through the new stresses and new pressures of increased workloads. Ideally you come to session with something to discuss (it's easier than you think) and prepared to do the homework.
My Background and Approach
I graduated with an MSW from the University of Southern California in 2011 and have been practicing since 2009 during grad school. I've worked extensively with the LGBTQ+ community in a number of contexts including community projects including with Friends Research Institute and UCLA. My approach is eclectic, open, and non-judgmental. I've garnered diplomate status in CBT and use many CBT interventions in my approach as well as fundamentals from Motivational Interviewing. I believe more in practical approaches using tools that can be used, however this approach takes me and you. Meaning I assign exercises for a reason and I can and will explain, but sometime you just have to trust the process by attempting the exercise and coming back with feedback to let me know whether or not it was helpful, so we can move on to step two. So, I will not assign a higher level exercise if the fundamental one have not been exhausted. I look forward to working with you!
