My Background and Approach
I work with folks from a relational gestalt framework focusing on present moment awareness, openness to experimentation, and the healing power of relationship. I integrate modalities such as Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic therapy, and existentialist, feminist, and queer theories that reframe problems in the context of culture that shapes us while requiring us to take an active role in our own growth. My aim is to deepen awareness of your lived experiences and empower you to create nourishing relationships that help you grow. I also specialize in work with couples, polyships, and all nature of relationships with the understanding that connection is a primary human need. I’ll help you recognize attachment styles and how to regulate your nervous system while co-regulating with your partners. Together we will interrupt the patterns that interfere with connection and show you the tools that facilitate better communication, interdependence, and resilience.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I view many of the problems that show up in therapy as creative adjustments to overwhelming, stressful, and hurtful conditions we all must face from time to time, or even most of the time. I know what it is like to search for your place in the world. As a gay man, I am deeply connected to queer experience and attuned to the unique struggles that LGBTQ+ individuals and couples face. I also believe that my queerness has helped me learn from others who help make sense of otherness and oppression. In my own work, I am constantly learning and unlearning the lessons of privilege and power and seek to create a supportive, and at times challenging, space for every kind of client. I believe that growth in therapy can help create a world that celebrates our differences and supports well-being in individuals, couples, friendships, families, and communities at large.
