Accepting Clients

Hi, I'm Steve! My practice is for men, teens and adults who want clarity, confidence, and stronger, more connected relationships.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Overland Park, KS

About My Clients

My ideal client is a man who looks steady on the outside but feels disconnected, frustrated, or stuck in his relationships. He may shut down during conflict, avoid hard conversations, or struggle to express what he’s feeling. He wants clarity, stronger communication, and deeper connection—but isn’t sure how to get there. He’s thoughtful, motivated, and ready to understand himself better so he can show up differently at home and in life. If this sounds like you, I encourage you to reach out.

My Background and Approach

I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa and am fully licensed in Kansas (LCPC) and Iowa (LMHC). With six years of clinical experience—including hospital EAP, private practice, and residential treatment—I bring both depth and real-world perspective to our work. I’m trained in CBT, EMDR, Gottman Method, and Interpersonal Therapy, which means you’ll gain practical tools for managing anxiety and depression, clearer communication skills, and deeper self-understanding. My approach is exploratory but structured—I offer honest, direct feedback along with concrete strategies and between-session exercises. As a man, I understand the pressure to shut down or “handle it alone.” I help you navigate conflict, build confidence, and feel steady, connected, and more secure in your relationships.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe people can change—not by becoming someone else, but by becoming more aligned with who they already are. Many men learned early on that shutting down was safer than speaking up. That strategy may have protected you once, but it quietly damages relationships later. I believe real strength is knowing what you feel without being ruled by it, and communicating it clearly while staying open to others. Growth happens through honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations in a safe relationship built on compassion and accountability. I’m a husband and father, shaped by athletics and my own struggles with anxiety, depression, and not feeling “enough.” I’ve also lost a loved one to suicide and support suicide prevention efforts. I work with adults of all backgrounds, identities, and orientations—everyone deserves to feel safe and understood. And while I practice in Royals territory, I still believe the Yankees are baseball’s greatest franchise—you're welcome to argue with me on that.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
