About My Clients

I have worked in crisis and outpatient settings and have enjoyed work with a variety of people. I do like to work with ADHD, Marriages, people with addiction struggles, anxiety and depression. I have a broad range of specialties to address mental health concerns, life transitions, relationship issues, and career choices. I am trained to integrate clinical counseling and theology: combining research-based psychology with a Christian perspective of human suffering, hope, and redemptive love.

My Background and Approach

There are always a lot of factors that go into becoming a therapist and taking an approach to helping and healing. I have an overall philosophy of meeting a person where they are and that no theory or therapy style can ever get to the sum of what it means to be fully human particularly in this complex world. I have worked in homeless shelters, homes for unwed mothers, medical and psychiatric hospital crisis settings as well as community mental health in addition to outpatient. I refer to Acceptance Commitment therapy a lot when I practice because the focus on values and committed action are very helpful in gaining traction in making progress when a person can look past significant challenges they face to know what direction and purpose in life give them more meaning. I am a pastor part time and can integrate Christian faith in counseling or not depending on the preference of the person I am working with. The goal of therapy is to have a life with purpose you can celebrate!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

The belief that got me started in counseling and social work settings over 25 years ago is everyone deserves to have help and no one should go through life having to hide their difficulties as if they were shameful. I believe people will overcome tremendous stresses and do this on a regular basis. I have worked in crisis setting committed to suicide prevention and safety planning, and helping with education and counseling with people dealing with psychosis. I have been a primary resource in getting AA going in a couple of hospital settings and worked on NAMI having a presence in the hospital as well. I believe there are many groups and avenues to getting better. Counseling is an important one but not the only avenue to heal and improve in life. I am a Christian, and believe every person is deeply valued by God and worthy of dignity and respect and certainly healing and help. I do not bring faith into counseling unless a client is interested in exploring faith and spirituality.
