About My Clients
My approach to therapy is to meet people where they are at, using evidence-based therapies that help you develop new coping skills, as well as identifying & challenging unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. I provide a non-judgmental perspective and unconditional support for my clients as their stories unfold. I promote my clients’ strengths and their power to advocate for themselfves. I help clients develop mindfulness practices that help them to meet their goals
My Background and Approach
My path to becoming a therapist has been touched by my own recovery from addiction and my experience as an immigrant. This experience as an outsider is invaluable to working with anyone who has felt alienated or left out of this sociiety. I have been in recovery since March 2008 and understand addiction from the inside out. I was born and raised by my mom in Cape Town, South Africa. I understand and can help people who struggle to survive. I worked as an accountant but decided after many years to follow my passion for helping and combine this with my life experience to become a counselor. My life experience guides me as I work with clients to develop their courage, determination & grit in rediscovering their lust for life. I am awed by the work I have seen many of my clients do..
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am humanistic and empathic in my approach. I bring a vast amount of life experience and deeper understanding to people who struggle with addiction and mental health diagnosis. I have been privileged to have worked with Folx that include life span development, neurobiology, and behavioral change. I believe that everyone deserves equal and fair access to treatment and resources regardless of what demographic or history they have come from. There is no room for judgement or shaming in my practice and I believe that honesty and respect is essential to building a healthy and safe environment for all my clients.
