About My Clients
Psychotherapy is a unique experience, in that it is acceptable and encouraged that you share all of your thoughts and feelings, to include those that you might more typically withhold in other contexts. Ideally, you will have an experience of feeling affirmed/acknowledged, thoroughly listened to, and seen as a complex human being. That said, it can take a long time to feel free enough to share yourself in this vulnerable way, and it is important that we move at your own pace.
My Background and Approach
I like to work with people who are experiencing anxiety/OCD, issues of self-worth, depression, eating disorders/issues, body dysphoria and related issues, detachment, loneliness, interpersonal challenges, rigidly held ways of operating...among other concerns. And/or, you may feel a sense of dissatisfaction with your life, with uncertainty as to why, perhaps with a desire to seek something, perhaps with unresolved grief/losses/traumas in the background. Some long-term goals of therapy *might* include: increased self-compassion, more sense of purpose, more flexible ways of operating and/or more sense of structure, more access to a range of emotions, more comfort in your body, more rewarding connections with others, more ability to tolerate the ambiguities of life, etc. For new patients, I strongly prefer for there to be at least some in-person component, even if we supplement with Zoom sessions. I do not offer phone sessions as a regular practice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In addition to looking in yourself, and in addition to looking at the immediate environments in your life, past & present (family / social), it may be important to look at societal issues that have a bearing on who you are and on how you have been able to live your life. I will help you to consider the complex interplay of factors that may be affecting you.
