ERP is used when treating clients with OCD and certain anxiety disorders. ERP encourages clients to face their fears or obsessive thoughts without pushing them away or doing compulsive activities.

Components of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are frequently used in my practice. DBT is a form of therapy that focuses on distress tolerance, emotional regulation, social skills training, and mindfulness. Exposure response prevention (EPR) is the gold standard of treatment for individuals diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. With guidance, you will expose yourself to the thoughts, images, and ideas that make you feel anxious. The point of ERP is to bring on anxiety temporarily. Eventually, the anxiety will come back down and you will feel less anxious when confronted with the feared themes again.
