About My Clients
I work with people who have been told they're “too sensitive,” “too much,” feel misunderstood, or feel alienated from the mainstream–people looking for a therapist who "gets it." You are not too intense, too sensitive, or too "out there." The whole of you is welcome with me! Individuals who work with me are often struggling with intense emotions; couples who work with me are often stuck in loops of conflict or suffering from breakdowns in trust.
My Background and Approach
The number one reason clients reach out is they are experiencing some kind of distress...and they would like to experience less of it. This distress may arise from our relationships with friends, family, partners, jobs, school, and systems, from our emotions and thoughts, from our relationship patterns, or from our behavior. Many want to make a change but are not sure how, therapy is great for that. Others simply want to deepen their connection with themselves, their partner(s), their community, and the world around them, therapy is great for that, too. How does therapy work? We will explore the deeper aspects of your experience and collaborate on the practical problems arising in your life, increase awareness, get unstuck from unhelpful patterns, strengthen relationships, soothe anxieties, and learn to set boundaries and communicate. I am direct, warm, and engaging. I will challenge and encourage you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work from an anti-oppressive framework and enthusiastically welcome activists, LGBTQIA+, poly + kinky folks, artists + dreamers, highly sensitive + emotionally intense types, marginalized people, and general misfits. It is important to me to bring humility, accountability, and solidarity to my role as a therapist in sharing my intersections of privilege and marginalization. I am of European ancestry, descended from settlers living on colonized land. I'm a white, queer, English-speaking, able-bodied, working-class raised, city-living, millennial-aged human. I'm dedicated to equity in my relationships and fighting for it systematically.
