Stephanie Adams-Gilmer (she/her)

While I come from a conservative, christian, and midwestern background, that's no longer who I am. I've come to be open, affirming, and inclusive, knowing that the world is a big place full of beautiful diversity. I'll still shoot straight with you like many midwesterners, but with gentleness and kindness. My ultimate priority is for you to feel safe in the bubble of our therapeutic relationship. Secondly, I honor the pace you need to take. This is different for everyone. No "one size fits all" approach here. While I graduated from a solution-focused MSW program, I highly value long-term, deep work that gets to the root of your struggles. My goal is to facilitate healing in those deep parts through using a very caring therapeutic relationship, trauma-focused perspective, EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and a strong belief in your ultimate goodness.

I believe that you have both an incredible goodness and a bent to get it wrong. You mean well. You try hard. But none of us can see ourselves from the outside. We all need an outside perspective to help us grow to our fullest potential. And that outside perspective needs to come from a safe person. I believe your story matters. How you got here is important. Hurtful and traumatic interactions shaped who you became and affect you today. We’re all on a journey to a better life. God used my own story to lead me to become a licensed psychotherapist. And He wants to use your story to lead you to the life He’s planned for you. I find deep satisfaction in helping you gain the joy you’re seeking. I believe that how I develop myself has a direct impact on our work together. If I’m not healthy, I can’t help you be healthy. I believe in the therapy process so much that I also see a therapist on a consistent basis. I do this so I can give you the best possible care.
