Accepting Clients

I'm a human who happens to be a psychologist. In addition to my private practice, I direct a women's treatment program in Marin.

About My Clients

I work with individuals and couples who want more psychological flexibility and meaning when self-protective beliefs and strategies have become limiting. These beliefs and strategies show up in all sorts of ways, like self-criticism, worry, avoidance, ruminating, numbing out, shutting down, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and addiction. There are always very good--and very deep--reasons for seemingly problematic patterns.

My Background and Approach

My background has been focused in treating individuals and couples with histories of relational trauma that are impacting current relationships with self, others, and the world. My approach is relational, so I will be direct with you without being prescriptive. I don't read from a manual or give worksheets. I work best with clients who are willing to be super curious about the way they experience life--and to put it into words while we work through it together. I view the work of psychotherapy as a sort of negotiation with reality. When we better perceive reality, we gain insight. We can then move toward acceptance of reality and are freed up to choose how to respond to it, rather than struggle against it.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm committed to prioritizing authentic human-to-human connection between us because that's where the greatest value of therapy comes from. I listen closely to fully understand the depth and scope of what you're experiencing before I start throwing googleable solutions at you. (Just kidding--I won't throw things, especially not solutions.) On an outpatient basis in private practice, I tend to see individuals and couples for longer-term work that extends beyond acute symptom resolution--although it does sometimes start with a crisis. My professional experience has particularly emphasized both recovery from substance use disorders and, broadly, mental health crisis stabilization across the spectrum (residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient).
