About My Clients
Perhaps it has taken you time to begin to find your shape. In adulthood, you were diagnosed autistic or came out as queer or left your religion. If you identify as different than the dominant culture, I hope to provide an affirming space for you. I practice from the perspective that you are the expert in your own experience, identity, and needs, and I will work with you collaboratively on your goals. I specialize in complex trauma, religious trauma, and neurodivergent identity formation.
My Background and Approach
Before I became a social worker, I taught for a few years and spent some time in the tech industry. Over time, I found that I was plagued with a feeling of disconnection (from meaning, from community, and from myself). I became a therapist to support others in community--to help you find your sense of purpose, to bear witness to your journey, and to collaborate with you on your goals. I would describe my approach as integrative: humanistic, existential, a tiny bit psychodynamic, relational, and above all client-centered. I use a queer-affirming, neurodiversity-affirming and disability justice lens. One of my primary focus areas is complex trauma, and I draw from a variety of modalities (narrative, parts work, somatic approaches) to support trauma recovery. I also work a lot with neurodivergent and queer folks. As a Social Worker, I'm interested in helping you examine how your experiences have been shaped by the systems you move through.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
So many things in life can leave us feeling hurt and unseen. Traumatic events, relational wounds, existing in systems that harm and invalidate us. Add to that the strain of living under oppressive systems and the brutal capitalist myth that our worth is based on our productivity, and we can find that we're being fed a lot of narratives that don't really fit us. I believe that people have the capacity to heal, and that healing supports our collective liberation. (Also, I am a Trekkie and will happily discuss DS9 or Voyager with you at length)
