About My Clients
Are you just waiting for the shoe to drop? Have the things you have been through taught you to expect the worst? Perhaps you, or your child, experienced something traumatic? These are the things that I specialize in. I have been to these places, wondering if life would ever get better. Wondering if I could have "that" relationship again, feel "that" way again. Trauma impacts a person. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I look forward to helping you find it.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at ECU and have since obtained my full license and started my own practice. I gained experience working with depression at my internship, trauma and hardships and a community mental health facility, and couples and sex therapy at a group practice. My focus is helping people recover from trauma. I believe in my clients, always. I can help you make sense of what you are feeling so that you can begin to find yourself again. I work with couples to help each of you understand how ones background impacts their responses, and find healthier ways to communicate. We do not have to talk in detail about the trauma for you to heal. There are so many methods I use to make it happen without rehashing the details. You can find your path forward without having to relive the past. Trained in EMDR to help you heal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the human capacity to change. We are wired for it. I think change is hard, it is a process, and often times we get frustrated with the lack of linear movement forward so we give up. However, change is not linear; you will take steps backwards and stop moving at times because of the principles of change. I believe that when that happens, we have to dig down...finding hope and faith that we can reach the goal.
