About My Clients

I specializing in working with eating disorders and substance use disorders and also focus on anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, fertility challenges, and relationship concerns. Most of the people I see are bright and insightful yet struggle with emotion regulation. Maybe you have difficulties with food or alcohol/drugs, distraction, multitasking, overworking, overthinking, perfectionism. I really think of these symptoms as strategies; I'm here to help you learn more effective ways of coping.

My Background and Approach

I have a PhD from GW, an MA in Exercise Science (Sports Psychology) from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a BA in Psychology from Cornell University. I also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in College Counseling. A Certified Eating Disorders Specialist, I have specialized training in eating disorders (including Family-Based Treatment), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (intensively trained in DBT through Behavioral Tech), and group psychotherapy. In 2020, deeply committed to Intuitive Eating and the Health at Every SizeⓇ Approach, I became a Certified Body TrustⓇ Provider. I am interested in trauma (and trauma-informed care) and trained in NARM™, the Neuro-Affective Relational Model, an approach to healing complex trauma. Prior to opening Gatewell Therapy Center, I worked at Columbia University Medical Center and UCLA, and now, through an affiliation with a local university graduate counseling program, train the next generation of therapists.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am deeply invested in offering healing rather than harm. For instance, I believe in weight-inclusive vs. weight-centric approaches. I also believe in examining and challenging the systems that impact individual functioning. Everyone exists in context, and we can’t heal on our own. I am committed, given my ethics and privileges, to identifying, challenging, and advocating against systems and structures that marginalize, oppress, and keep people stuck. I intend to be non-judgmental, non-shaming, and respectful of you and your experiences. I believe that you are the expert on you. I can learn from you just as much as you can learn from me, and I am committed to learning and doing better. My intention is to create a mental health space free of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, weight stigma, and other individual and institutionalized forms of oppression. Our liberation is collective.
