About My Clients
I support individuals and couples in the perinatal period - are you planning to start a family, pregnant or newly postpartum? This is a life-changing and vulnerable time that can bring up a lot of intense emotions including anxiety, grief and depression. Some of the areas I can help with include: processing pregnancy and anticipatory birth anxiety, working through a birth story that resulted in grief and/or trauma, and facilitating effective communication around new roles and expectations.
My Background and Approach
I use a non-hierarchical and client-centered approach which means I aim to honor your unique life experiences and respect the expertise you bring to your story. I work towards aligning you with your authentic self by helping you tap into existing strengths and inherent wisdom, develop insight into the obstacles appearing in your way, and identify new solutions towards change. I am here to support and facilitate growth in the areas you feel stuck and overwhelmed, whether individually or interpersonally. In my practice, I meet you where you are with empathy and non-judgmental curiosity. I use an integrative style combining social constructionist therapies including Narrative and Solution-Focused when working with individual clients. As an artist myself, I often incorporate expressive art exercises to facilitate new perspectives and connection with the intuitive self. When working with couples, I use EFT and The Gottman Method.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The perinatal experience can bring up a profound sense of joy, excitement, fulfillment and purpose. At the same time, this time period can cause a person to be consumed with anxiety, stress, grief, overwhelming responsibility, loss of identity, feelings of sadness, and total defeat. It is an incredibly vulnerable and life-altering moment in a new parent’s life when they learn to care for their fragile, helpless infant and a massive undertaking even with a strong support system. Unfortunately, our culture does not often openly talk about the latter experiences and I am deeply passionate about changing this narrative in my work with the perinatal population.
