About My Clients
Are you feeling like you're stuck and not knowing what steps to take next in life or your relationship? Feeling like you've lost your passion or zest for life? Or are you feeling frozen or are you being held hostage by your own anxiety? My clients are creative, funny, witty, and intelligent women, but find themselves standing in their own way. If this sounds like you and you need help to move forward in life, then reach out to me for support. I look forward to helping you get unstuck in life!
My Background and Approach
Three things I want you to walk away from therapy with are: 1. To feel more confident 2. To feel more connected in your relationships, and 3. To feel more in control of YOU. I am trained in several treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Mindfulness, and I am certified in Interpersonal Psychotherapy. I have spent many years helping people understand their anxiety, where it comes from, and how to lean into their anxiety. Many therapists will tell you they can help you get rid of your anxiety. I don't help you get rid of your anxiety. Anxiety is there to HELP us, but sometimes it sets off a "false alarm" in our brain. My approach is to help you teach your brain how to respond, or better yet, how NOT to respond to false alarms. Once you train your brain to do this, you will notice a decrease in your anxiety symptoms over time. By doing this, you will take control over your anxiety and over your body's response to the anxiety.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Many clients want to understand "why" they are having so much anxiety and the truth is that there usually isn't just one reason. Genetics, life's circumstances, access to resources, our supports and connection to community...all of those things contribute to how we cope and manage stress/life. I have suffered from anxiety, depression, and OCD (intrusive thoughts) for most of my life. I can tell you that the best evidence based treatment for anxiety is the combination of talk therapy and medication, and that has also been true for me. So not only am I passionate about helping others manage their anxiety, but I speak to people as someone who has to manage their own mental health issues EVERY DAY. I am a Hashimoto's Warrior and fought very hard to get doctors to listen to me and not dismiss my symptoms, therefore, I also enjoy working with women that are dealing with autoimmune disorders and/or are struggling navigating the healthcare system.
