About My Clients
As a black woman who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community, working with women of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community have always been populations that I have wanted to give back too after all of the strength that they have given me. With there being a large percentage of therapists who are white, I want to provide a space of understanding that certain people who are not minorities will never fully understand.
My Background and Approach
My goal is to be able to create a safe space for my client to not feel fear that they are being judged or having assumptions made about them. As a black woman myself, I know what it is like to have others assume your life story just by the way you look and I would never wish that upon someone else. As a first generation student, I received two undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California, Irvine. While there, I was able to get experience working with clients as a peer coach. One of the many things that I learned was that even if someone comes from a different background or has different experiences from you, there is always the foundation of emotions that we have all experienced in some capacity. I want to be able to not only help others but learn from their thoughts and feelings to become a more well-rounded person and mental health professional.
