About My Clients

I counsel LGBTQIA adults who are autistic, plural, and/or survivors of childhood abuse. We usually address issues related to complex trauma, dissociation, gender identity. Clients sometimes report feeling alone in relationships or not knowing why they do things. Maybe once effective ways of protecting yourself are now preventing the connection and growth you want. I value getting to know you, learning your strengths, and identifying skills that support you in seeking safety and healing.

My Background and Approach

My approach to therapy is psychodynamic and informed by research on neurobiology and oppressive systems’ effects on nervous systems and communities. I am trained in EMDR and Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH level 1). I completed my PhD (2016) and MEd (2011) in Counseling at the University of North Texas, and I previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I've published 9 peer-reviewed research articles in professional counseling journals and delivered twenty-one presentations at international, national, and state conferences. Before that I counseled adult and adolescent clients in community, residential, and diversion programs in Dallas, TX.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My community is trans, queer, and disabled; and I seek to center autonomy and consent in therapaeutic relationships. I am experienced in abolitionist crisis support and community mutual aid; and harm reduction practices guide my treatment planning. I work with clients to develop a strong therapeutic relationship and stabilization prior to engaging in deeper trauma processing. This can give us an opportunity to enhance your resources prior to doing deeper trauma processing, and it allows us to develop a therapeutic relationship where you can develop safety in shifting attachment and relating to others. I am passionate about this work given my own experiences in life that inform it, and I feel honored to connect with clients who seek it out.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
