About My Clients
My favorite clients have something about them besides clinical or relationship issues. Most importantly to me, they have courage, the commitment to work on their issues, and the desire for true personal growth. My passion for my work – – as strong as it was I’m grateful to say as when I started in practice decades ago — reflects the privilege I feel I have working with a diverse range of people, helping and guiding them along clinical, relationship, personal lines.
My Background and Approach
In the earliest years of my practice, I made sure to seek out personal psychotherapy—not only to address personal issues, but also to enhance my empathy and confidence as a psychotherapy provider. In the decades since then, I have maintained an ongoing commitment to yearly continuing education for myself, as well as to training and supervising newer therapists entering the field. My general approach with my clients is to balance compassionate listening and heartfelt empathy with constructively challenging them to face what can be hard truths to face, and to then use these truths to become more courageous and resilient. Please see the “specialties” section below for my clinical specialty areas of treatment
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My beliefs and values are strongly rooted in mutual respect, mutual listening, mutual compromise, and mutual kindness. Along these lines on a personal level, I voluntarily run a PTSD support group, and occasionally volunteer in a local food bank.
