My Background and Approach
Shelby works with families, couples, adults, children, and teens. She specializes in supporting youth and parents with behavioral issues and navigating the challenges of parenthood. She is keen in helping you build resources, coping skills, and working through trauma, PTSD. She helps you build skills that actually create new pathways in your brain, physically doing something about your challenges instead of just talking about them. Shelby is working on her PhD in Clinical Psychology. Some evidence-based practices she uses are Eye-Movement-Desensitization-Reprocessing (EMDR), a modality found to be effective in treating anxiety from trauma, CBT, ACT, IFS, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), and more. Also accept Quest Ins and other insurances please reach out and we can explore this further on if I’m in your insurance network or not.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Change begins with baby steps, very small steps toward what you value. The reason you are seeking therapy is because you are hoping something will change. How will your life look after therapy? How are you hoping it will be different? I believe you know yourself best. As your therapist my role is to evoke new insight and awareness and to help you reach your therapeutic goals the ones we create together, steps, objectives, and goals that lead you to living a life that resonates with what you value. It isn't always easy, but it is doable. I feel I am a great therapist because I have really healed from much of my own trauma. When you experience trauma, often you adopt a false belief about yourself 'I am unsafe' 'I am a bad person' 'I'm stupid' etc, with bilateral stimulation and EMDR you can process these negative beliefs, & install what you want to believe about yourself 'I am safe' 'I am a great person' 'I am able to learn'..feeling and believing truth, life changing & transformative.
