My Background and Approach
Throughout my journey, I have felt called to help people heal from traumatic experiences. Through my learning, I learned that many people use substances to cope with those traumatic experiences. Working with survivors of domestic violence, it only made sense to help harm-doers. My approach holds the person who caused harm accountable for their actions while teaching emotional regulation, healthy relationship skills, and psychoeducation on power and control, working to eliminate those harmful behaviors and thought processes. To create lasting change, I work with individuals who are primarily or secondarily harmed by others' choices. This could include changing thoughts and behaviors, teaching emotional regulation and distress tolerance, body-based healing, recognizing unconscious patterns, and value-based action. You already have what you need; therapy helps you access it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Black therapist, I take alot of pride in providing services to people who look like me. Research shows that people of color often lack resources and the help they need to grow and move forward from traumatic experiences. I want to be a pillar of my community, helping the Black community heal.
