About My Clients
I have worked with adults on a variety of topics, including life transitions, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-esteem, and trauma. This relationship is one of the most unique relationships one can have. I see it as a collaborative relationship, working together to understand you at a deeper level. I see myself as a guide through the process of change- you are the expert on you. I think of "symptoms" as neither good nor bad, but information to be curious about.
My Background and Approach
Since 2006, I have worked in a variety of settings over a full continuum of care, from inpatient to outpatient. In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am also a Licensed Addiction Counselor. I have a background as a music therapist and in expressive arts therapy and I strive to bring creativity and the arts into sessions. I am currently a candidate in training with the Inter Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, working towards becoming a Jungian Analyst. With Jungian work at the forefront of how I practice, I often use dream work and other methods to help clients explore their unconscious material and develop a greater awareness of the layers of their psyches. Jung says "a man should know himself and his own peculiarities and have the courage to stand by them." So often we are either unaware or ashamed of our "peculiarities." My goal is to not only get to know these parts of ourselves, but to learn to be curious (if not accepting!) about them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we all have a deeper wisdom that knows exactly what is best for us. Unfortunately, many of us were taught to stop listening or trusting that wisdom. Part of our work as we move through life is to learn to hear that wisdom again. We can often find this wisdom in our dreams, fantasies, and even in behaviors or experiences often called symptoms! I strive to create an environment where you can bring the split off parts of yourself so we can hold these parts together and allow the unseen parts of you to be seen. That said, it is important to me that I create an inclusive environment in the therapy room and I welcome clients with a variety of lived experiences.
