About My Clients
What if you could stop “managing” your mental health? I work with individuals whose lives are “complicated,” deeply understand why they do what they do, and still can’t seem to get better. With a focus on "intellectualizers”, trauma, and chronic illness, I work with folks who are sick of coping, and want to start healing.
My Background and Approach
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (CT), Registered Drama Therapist, and Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. More importantly, I’m a theatre kid, cat-mom, and fellow therapy-goer. As a therapist, I got sick and tired of seeing clients get told that deep-breathing and “reframing” will solve all of their problems. That’s when I started focusing on evidenced-based approaches that target the “why” behind people’s distress.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that therapy can do more than provide you with coping skills. I believe that humans have the capacity to change on a deeper level, and I utilize evidenced-based approaches that lead to this deep healing and change. I believe in showing up as a human being with thoughts, feelings, and reactions, rather than a "blank screen." I believe that, while not always necessary, clients often benefit from working with individuals with shared identities and lived-experience. This is why, as a therapist, I am open about my identity as chronically ill and about the fact that I attend my own therapy. I believe that my space should be open to all, and work to create an environment where you can show up as your authentic self. I believe that pie is better than cake, sweet over savory, and a hot dog is a sandwich.
