About My Clients
Therapy can appear intimidating. I applaud you for taking this first step. My style is authentic, transparent, and compassionate. I love working with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients. There are many facets about living an underprivileged and underrepresented life that may be a stressor and worthwhile to process in therapy. Many of my clients are neurodivergent, alternative, disabled, ENM/kinksters, black sheep - My clients tend to be the outcasts, just like me. Let's get weird!
My Background and Approach
Before becoming a therapist, I worked for over 4 years as an Independent Living Skills worker in the community and in clients' homes. I've seen what a large variety of mental health concerns look like outside of the office. I've led LGBTQ+, SUD recovery, and chronic illness groups. These experiences have taught me about how to incorporate a holistic approach and that systemic oppression is fought with systemic support. As a nonbinary, queer, fat person, I strive to make a safe space for all identities. I didn't just read about poverty, trauma, and oppression in college - I've lived it. I'm also committed to being teachable and acknowledge my white and cis-passing privileges. Your personal story is unique. Your culture, perspectives, and values help me understand how to use approaches that fit you. I'm the type of therapist who laughs and uses swear words right along with you. I teach skills, suggest homework sometimes, give resources, and I'll have your back in this healing process.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a believer in a holistic approach. Mental health wellness includes mind, body, and soul. Sometimes that calls for a creative approach and more than just talk therapy. Areas I support include: HAES, BLM, Poly/Kink friendly, HIV/AIDS allied, sex-positive/sex-worker allied, and several other views I'm sure you can imagine. I also write support letters for gender-affirming surgery. I help guide others in developing or reconstructing their authentic self and demolishing old, unhealthy thought patterns. I will gently challenge you to embrace vulnerability, build upon your strengths, and I'll celebrate victories with you! We'll write or rewrite your narrative. We'll sit with the pain and honor its existence too. This type of work can help replace shame and sadness with empowerment, purpose, and joy.
