About My Clients

Is your relationship with food and your body getting in the way of living life? Do you feel like you worry about school or you health all of the time and can't seem to get organized? Do you wish that these concerns took up less "mental real estate" in your brain? I am passionate about supporting individuals affected by eating and body image concerns. I am a weight inclusive psychologist who is passionate about supporting individuals with eating, body image, academic, and health concerns.

My Background and Approach

I believe that our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are interconnected, and that our problems are often influenced by factors that aren't entirely within our control. Together, we will explore your concerns with curiosity, while also attending to the cultural and systemic factors that are impacting your life. My approach to therapy primarily uses acceptance based (ACT) and cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) with a side of humor and compassion. I identify as a weight inclusive therapist who uses a non-diet approach in the treatment of eating, body image and health concerns. Psychotherapy research has not traditionally included individuals from diverse backgrounds. For example, eating disorder treatment has mainly been researched using samples of underweight white adolescent females, leaving many individuals out of the studies that look at its effectiveness. Though I use evidence-based psychotherapy, I acknowledge that there is not a “one size fits all” approach to treatment.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that it is important to acknowledge and address the impact of power, privilege, and the social determinants (influencers) of health on individual mental health and behavior. To that end, I strive to advocate for the best interests of my clients outside of the therapy room, and prioritize individualized treatment approaches for all who seek my services. While the evidence-based therapy approaches in which I have been trained provide useful techniques, I find the most fulfilling and important part of my work as a psychologist is to build supportive and authentic relationships with my clients. This often includes both laughter and tears during the journey toward change (if desired)!
