About My Clients
Life happens. Sometimes the things we experience in life are a bit too much to handle on our own, a bit too personal to talk to friends about, and a bit too complicated to rely on self-help gurus. This is where I come into the picture. My goal is to help people work through some things that may be hindering them from becoming the best version of themselves that they can be. Areas of competence: Trauma, Death/Dying; Grief/Loss, Depression, Anxiety, Sexual Abuse/Assault, Teen Issues/Struggles
My Background and Approach
I have over 10 years of experience in social services in various capacities. The bulk of my experience is with family and children experiencing some tough life circumstances which include abuse, neglect, family dysfunction, trauma, and DHR involvement. I have also worked with children in Foster Care and their foster families. When I am not at work, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. I am a huge true crime fan and watch murder docs for fun! I enjoy puzzle games and word art crafts. I also enjoy adult coloring books. My husband and I have 3 cats and a dog. We are foster parents with DHR and have fostered 6 children since 2020. I received my Master of Social Work in May of 2013 from Alabama A&M University. In August of 2013, I became a Licensed Master Social Worker in Alabama. I am currently a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Private Independent Practioner certification. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the BSW program at Alabama A&M.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that life can be tough sometimes and sometimes finding someone who will listen, like really listen, and not judge them is even tougher. As a Social Worker, I am committed to fighting against social injustice of all kinds (racism, homophobia, and misogyny are just a few examples). While I am not here to get political, I think it is important that my clients know that I am a progressive liberal who believes in pro-choice, pro-LGBTQIA+, anti-racist ideas and strives to live life in a way that reflects this.
